Our Proud History

“La Casa de Máquinas” was built in 1905 during a time when French style architecture was the rage in Merida.   In the upper part of the structure, a natural fiber, called “henequen” or sisal, grown right at Hacienda Teya, was industrialized.  In the lower part there were a set of tracks and carts used for removing the resulting by-product called “bagazo”.

Today this building has become a graciously appointed, air conditioned event salon. It has the capacity to seat up to 450 people and features an imposing indoor reflecting pool.

The two-story Main House or “Casa Principal” was built at the end of the XVII century.  Its façade is graced with a beautiful stone staircase and a belfry with its bells.

The Main Salon, called “Los Vitrales”, is located in the upper story of the Main House.  It is a beautiful, 270-guest-capacity room with air conditioning, used for parties and meetings.  Contiguous to Los Vitrales is the smaller “Map Room” where civil weddings and work meetings are held.

“Salón Sisal” is located at ground level between the Chapel and the Main House.  It is ideal for small social gatherings or work meetings. It is air conditioned and has a stage and kitchen facilities.

The beautiful formal garden, “El Jardín de las Bugambilias”, is adorned by the “chacuaco” or smokestack traditional to the haciendas of Yucatan.  It is now used for social events of up to 250 guests.

“Jardín del Conde” and “La Explanada”  are also open air spaces, surrounded by exuberant vegetation, with the Gran Salón Casa de Máquinas and  the Casa Principal as a backdrop.
